Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Crown House is a diverse and inclusive school community in which every child should feel known, valued and that they belong. We believe our differences enrich school life. Our pupils and families bring a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, experiences, perspectives, strengths and needs to our community and we want children to grow up curious about one another, confident in who they are and respectful of the people and world around them.

As a non-selective school, inclusion is fundamental to our ethos. We recognise that children do not all begin in the same place or need the same things in order to flourish. Our responsibility is to understand each child as an individual, remove barriers where they exist and provide the appropriate support and challenge to enable every pupil to participate, progress and achieve.

This is reflected in our curriculum, our pastoral care, the relationships we build and the opportunities we provide for pupils to listen to different perspectives, encounter experiences beyond their own and develop empathy and understanding.

What do Diversity, Equity and Inclusion mean at Crown House?

DIVERSITY
We recognise and celebrate the differences that make each member of our community unique. We want our curriculum and school life to reflect the diversity of our community and the wider world, enabling children to encounter different cultures, perspectives and experiences with curiosity and respect.

EQUITY
Equity means recognising that fairness does not always mean treating everyone in exactly the same way. We seek to understand individual strengths, needs and starting points, removing barriers and providing the support, opportunities and challenge each child needs to thrive.

INCLUSION
Inclusion means creating a community in which everyone can participate, contribute and feel that they belong. We want every pupil to feel safe to be themselves, confident that their voice matters and able to access the full richness of life at Crown House.

Our Crown House Learning Behaviours describe our pupils as Kind and Tolerant. We want children to understand that this means more than simply accepting difference: it means showing empathy, listening to others, challenging prejudice and treating people with dignity and respect.

Ultimately, we want pupils to leave Crown House with open minds, broad horizons and a strong sense of their place within a diverse and interconnected world – confident in themselves, respectful of others and ready to contribute positively to the communities of which they are part.
