Prep (KS2 – Years 3-6)
At Crown House, our Prep pupils are encouraged to question, discuss and reason across all subjects as they begin to develop into independent and responsible learners. With a challenging curriculum that nurtures natural curiosity, every pupil is supported to make meaningful growth. The Crown House Tapestry is woven throughout the curriculum, enriching the educational experience and helping to create a creative, modern and relevant learning environment.
Our small class sizes ensure each pupil receives individual support, and our teachers know their pupils well, allowing them to understand each child’s strengths and areas for development. This commitment helps to bring out the best in every child and enables them to shine and reach their full potential.
In Years 3 and 4, pupils continue to foster a love of learning and discover who they are and what they enjoy. Pupils have the same teacher for maths and the same teacher for English throughout the two years, one of whom will also be their form tutor. This means that the English and maths teachers get to know them and their learning very well. We encourage curiosity and perseverance, promoting enquiring minds and growing independence in learning, while also instilling a caring attitude towards others. Specialist teachers lead lessons in many subjects including music, drama, French, games, PE and computing.
Beyond the classroom, pupils have many opportunities to grow, whether by joining a new club, representing the school at sporting events, going on educational visits or enjoying the adventure of a residential trip in Year 4.
In Years 5 and 6, we continue to support pupils as they develop resilience, problem-solving skills, self-reliance and confidence. Building on the strong foundations laid in previous years, our pupils become more independent in their learning and have more options, enabling them to research and study things within the topics which are of particular interest to them.

We provide tailored support to help them take their next steps in life, with strong focus on preparation for the Secondary Transfer test (11+) whilst developing vital life skills and focusing on positive mental health and wellbeing. Additionally, pupils benefit from exciting educational visits and enriching residential trips that broaden their horizons and foster a sense of adventure and discovery.

“In addition to focusing on the literacy, reasoning and mathematical competencies, pupils follow a broad and engaging curriculum, which includes French, drama, art and music. This curriculum ensures that pupils also develop aesthetic and creative, technological and scientific skills, ready for transition to senior schools.”
